Chia-wen, a middle-aged divorcee working at the tollbooth on the freeway, is about to be laid off. Her financial burden increases when her teenage son is charged with sexual assault. At this difficult time, Chia-wen meets Chih-hao, who promises to help in exchange for sex. Standing at the crossroads in her life, Chia-wen is uncertain which step to take next.
Chan Ching-lin was born in 1980 in Taiwan. His works often centre on the underprivileged. His short film, A Breath from the Bottom, won him Best Director at the Taipei Film Awards 2013. The Island That All Flow By is his first feature.
