The Golden Horse Film Festival opens with Stranger Eyes by YEO Siew-hua. For a total of 449 screenings, there are 184 films from 54 countries/regions, along with 114 post-screening Q&A and attendances of over 347 filmmakers domestic or overseas. Ticket sales reach nearly 80 percent and the box office sets new heights over the years.

This year’s Filmmaker In Focus are James IVORY, Alfonso CUARÓN and the directorial duo Daniels – Daniel KWAN and Daniel SCHEINERT. The Filmmakers’ Talk features Hiroshi ABE, Daniel KWAN, Jonathan WANG, Ke-Huy QUAN and Alfonso CUARÓN. The NETPAC Award goes to Montages of a Modern Motherhood by Oliver CHAN Siu-kuen.

Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (FPP) selected 63 projects (including 38 FPP Projects, 13 Work-In-Progress Projects and 12 Series Projects), having 1,740 one-on-one meetings with 142 companies/organizations. Director Nell WANG's On the Seesaw won the Grand Prize. FPP Workshop invited LU Wei-chun, Sam YUAN Tzu-hsiang, Cora YIM and Olive TING as pitching trainers, CHAN Wai and CHAN Ching-lin as screenwriting trainers while CHEN Yu-hsun, YEO Yann-yann, and Jacky PANG Yee-wah as FPP Final-stage Jury.

Golden Horse Film Academy selected 14 talents out of 205 submissions. The film academy is led by dean LIAO Ching-sung, and mentors QIU Yang, CHIANG Wei-liang. Invite ZHU Zhi-ying and YAO Chun-yao as designated actors for the academy’s short film. The selected talents finished two short films: "When the Water Stills" and "All about I Loved You".

2024 Golden Horse Master Class features a splendid lineup to share their expertise, including Academy Awards winners Alfonso CUARÓN, Daniel KWAN, Jonathan WANG and Ke Huy QUAN, as well as cinematographer Frederick ELMES, co-president of Sony Pictures Classics Michael BARKER, intimacy coordinator Alicia RODIS, stunt coordinator Keir BECK, screenwriter CHUNG Seo-kyung, film editor NAM Na-young, VFX supervisor CHEONG Jai-hoon, cinematographer Mark LEE Ping-bing and director Gilles BOURDOS. These 13 heavyweight veterans, along with 431 attending filmmakers, explore in depth the unbound possibilities of Chinese-language cinemas.

The 61^st Golden Horse Awards Ceremony is held at Taipei Music Center for the very first time. The Red Carpet is hosted by Pink YANG, WANG Yu-xuan and Jake HSU; the ceremony is hosted by LIU Kuan-ting. Awards presenters include Ke Huy QUAN, Daniel KWAN, Jonathan WANG and Hiroshi ABE. There are 718 submissions to the competition; among the 44 nominated films, there is a huge increase in international co-productions, and diversity of the nominees’ nationalities also sets a new record.

After the Golden Horse Awards for Best Documentary Feature received accreditation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2018 with the direct eligibility for the Academy Awards; starting this year, winners of the Golden Horse Awards for Best Live Action Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film, and Best Animated Short Film will also be eligible for the Academy Awards consideration.
