Van Gogh

Based on the life of the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, it focuses on the last few months before his death. The movie details Vincent's close, if volatile, relationship with his brother, Theo. Also examined are the artist's friendships with his doctor, Paul Gachet and the physician's pretty daughter, Marguerite, as well as Vincent's late-period work and his creative process.

Maurice Pialat
Maurice PIALAT was born on 31 August 1925 in Puy-de-Dôme, France and grew up in Paris. He studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and the École des Beaux Arts. As a film director, he was known for his non-conformity, which led to difficulties in obtaining finance, and he wrote and directed just ten features, of which at least half were masterworks. Their primary concerns were childhood and family, and Pialat drew on his own experiences to present unyielding portraits of familial cruelty and infidelity. He died on 11 January 2003 in Paris, France.
