The Mouth Agape
Monique is dying of cancer. Her husband, Roger, carries on with life, groping the female customers. Her son, Philippe, remains aloof and impatient. Her daughter-in-law, Nathalie, wonders if she is witnessing her own future decline. The four individuals struggle to express, or even feel, their love for one another, as they await the inevitable.

Maurice PIALAT was born on 31 August 1925 in Puy-de-Dôme, France and grew up in Paris. He studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and the École des Beaux Arts. As a film director, he was known for his non-conformity, which led to difficulties in obtaining finance, and he wrote and directed just ten features, of which at least half were masterworks. Their primary concerns were childhood and family, and Pialat drew on his own experiences to present unyielding portraits of familial cruelty and infidelity. He died on 11 January 2003 in Paris, France. |
