We Won't Grow Old Together

We Won't Grow Old Together examines the final period of a long and ultimately unhappy affair. Jean is an unpleasant, domineering man. His marriage is practically over. For six years, Jean has had an affair with the much younger Catherine, but their relationship is moving toward disintegration. Scenes of alternating recriminations and reconciliations unveil the anatomy of their breakup.

Maurice Pialat
Maurice PIALAT was born on 31 August 1925 in Puy-de-Dôme, France and grew up in Paris. He studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and the École des Beaux Arts. As a film director, he was known for his non-conformity, which led to difficulties in obtaining finance, and he wrote and directed just ten features, of which at least half were masterworks. Their primary concerns were childhood and family, and Pialat drew on his own experiences to present unyielding portraits of familial cruelty and infidelity. He died on 11 January 2003 in Paris, France.
