Romeo and Juliet
Narrated by Laurence Olivier and shot in Tuscany and Siena for an authentic Italian Renaissance touch, this British-Italian co-production pushed the boundaries of traditional Shakespearean productions by including nude love scenes. Franco Zeffirelli was born in 1923. As an Italian director and producer of operas, films and television, Zeffirelli is also a former senator (1994-2001) for Forza Italia party. He received an Oscar nomination for Romeo and Juliet in 1969. |
