An Elephant Sitting Still

Wei Bu, a teenager, is on the run after he injured Shuai, a school bully. Ling, Wei's classmate, cuts ties with her mother. Shuai's brother, Cheng, feels responsible for a friend's suicide. Mr Wang, a pensioner, whose family want to send him to a care home. All the protagonists seem to be drawn to Manzhouli, where an elephant is simply sitting, feeling indifferent to the world.

Hu Bo (1988-2017) studied film directing at Beijing Film Academy. Following two short films and several novels, An Elephant Sitting Still was his first feature-length film. Tragically, in 2017, Hu took his own life at the age of 29. |
