A-Ge-Man — Tales of a Golden Geisha

"A-Ge-Man" is an old term meaning upward fortune and it also refers to a woman who brings luck. Nayoko, an abandoned child, sets out to become a geisha after graduating from junior high school. She is bought by a Buddhist priest, Tamonin. After taking her in as a mistress, his status as a priest rises, and Nayoko is rumoured to be an "A-Ge-Man". After Tamonin's sudden death, Nayoko takes refuge in a bank owned by an acquaintance, where she meets a banker named Mondo Suzuki. Meanwhile, a political mastermind Yoshitake Okura has his eye on Nayoko's "A-Ge-Man".



ITAMI Juzo

Itami Juzo was born in Kyoto in 1933. His father was the renowned film director, Itami Mansaku. After working as a film actor, designer, essayist, producer of TV documentaries and commercials and editor-in-chief of magazine mon oncle, he made his debut as a film director in 1984 with the highly acclaimed The Funeral. Itami had directed ten films before his death in 1997.
