2018 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival closing film YOUR FACE premiered on November 22nd. The director Tsai Ming-liang, actor Lee Kang-sheng and Lee’s mother Liu Chin-hua who appeared in the movie, all attended the premiere. Tsai also surprises the audience with live singing performance, including the new song he wrote THERE IS SOME LIGHT. At the end of the performance, Tsai shared his personal life story to express support for the marriage equality.

After the Asian premiere of VR film THE DESERTED at last year’s Golden Horse Film Festival, Tsai feels the need and urge on close-ups in his films. In this latest work, he filmed 13 faces, all in close-ups, which not only show Tsai’s affection towards these ordinary people but also their life stories. The lights turned their faces into painting canvas, while the wrinkles and curves reflect time itself.

This unique artistic creation also brought about Tsai’s collaboration with esteemed musician Sakamoto Ryuichi. Tsai said it took over twenty years for him to finally find the perfect sound and music that he could only wish for, and that is Sakamoto.

At the end of the premiere, Tsai’s sharing of his youth love story touched the audience with frankness and sensibility, and he also urged everyone to support for marriage equality.

This year’s Golden Horse Film Festival screened 175 films from 56b countries, with 345 screenings in total, including 2 open-air screenings, 4 Filmmaker-in-Focus talks, 6 filmmakers’ parties, 7 Red Carpet Gala Screening, 10 Master Classes, 25 Press Conference and 65 Q&A sessions, along with New Director Forum featuring Best New Director nominees René LIU, Mag XU, HSU Chih-yen, WEN Muye, DONG Yue, and cinematographer FAN Chao. On November 25th, there will be a Master Class by Academy Award-winner Mychael Danna, as well as Q&A session for the VR project 5X1.
