Nominees of the 56th Golden Horse Awards

The nominees of the 56th Golden Horse Awards were announced on October 1st, selected out of the total 588 submissions (91 Narrative Feature, 2 Animated Feature, 86 Documentary, 353 Live Action Short Film, and 56 Animated Short Film).
Detention leads with 12 nominations, including Best Narrative Feature, Best New Director, Best Leading Actress and Best New Performer; A Sun follows with 11 nods, including Best Narrative Feature, Best Director, Best Leading Actor (two actors) & Actress, as well as Best Supporting Actor & Actress. The Garden of Evening Mists also grabs 9 nominations, including Best Narrative Feature, Best Director and Best Leading Actress.
Nominees for Best Leading Actors are: CHEUNG Ka-nin& Ben YUEN (Suk Suk), CHEN Yi-wen & WU Chien-ho (A Sun) and CHU Pak-hong (My Prince Edward). Nominees for Best Leading Actress are: Samantha KO (A Sun), LEE Sinje (The Garden of Evening Mists), YEO Yann-yann (Wet Season), LU Hsueh-feng (Synapses), and Gingle WANG (Detention)
This year’s Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year goes to veteran sound engineer TANG Shiang-chu. The Jury noted that, “TANG Shiang-chu has built a bridge for the inheritance of Taiwanese cinema ever since he worked on many Taiwan New Cinema as sound recording engineer. Not only does he support many short films and independent films, he is also an outstanding documentary director. His achievement for the film industry may not be visible but sure will not be ignored”.
All nominated films will be screened at the Golden Horse Film Festival starting from November 7th; tickets sale starts from October 27th. The 56th Golden Horse Awards Ceremony will be held on November 23rd at National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Taiwanese audience may watch TV live broadcasting on TTV; web live broadcasting exclusively on friDay.
