The highly acclaimed Golden Horse Master Class, established in 2018, features courses by veteran filmmakers and substantial contents that are both inspirational and practical. This year, the executive Committee collaborates again with Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, MOC, plus the generous support from Pegatron Corporation. This year’s lineup is led by Chair of the Festival, Ang LEE, including two-time Academy Awards winner for Best Visual Effects Bill WESTENHOFER, Academy Awards nominee & Golden Horse Awards winner Tim SQUYRES, Palm d’Or winning-director KORE-EDA Hirokazu, winner of Golden Horse and Golden Melody Awards Ricky HO, distinguished production designer TANEDA Yohei, action choreographer YANG Kil Yong, sound production supervisor Traithep WONGPAIBOON, film colorist CHU Szu-yi, Senior Vice President of HBO Asia Original Productions Jessica KAM-ENGLE, and award-winning actor NAGASE Masatoshi, who will also join the jury at the 56^th Golden Horse Awards.

Golden Horse Master Class is the first-ever large-scale professional courses in Taiwan that cover varied fields of films. The lineup this year including heavyweight filmmakers from Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and Hollywood. They pick up the topic of interest and unreservedly share their experiences to bring a wider Asian vision. KORE-EDA Hirokazu will deconstruct and expose the director’s mindset with examples like Shoplifters. YANG Kil Yong will cover the realistic action choreography style rooted in dramatic core with The Host. Traithep WONGPAIBOON will demonstrate the sound mixing techniques for various genre films like Bad Genius. Ricky HO will reveal the creative process of winning film score for Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale.

This year, the Master Class also brings about international co-production and Hollywood experience to explore new possibilities of cinema. NAGASE Masatoshi reveals the challenge and task for acting; Jessica KAM-ENGLE share the strategic blueprint of international co-production by HBO Asia. CHU Szu-yi will unveil the secret of color grading as we move into the high-def 4K HDR era. TANEDA Yohei will analyze production design from the classis to the VR future. Ang LEE, Bill WESTENHOFER and Tim SQUYRES will talk about the ambitious Gemini Man: its technical challenge, aesthetics and path into the future of cinema.

Ricky HO and Traithep WONGPAIBOON will also lead the newly added Golden Horse Studio this year, for film scoring and sound mixing, respectively.

Golden Horse Master Class and the Studio will be held between November 16 and November 22, at Taipei New Horizon, Central Motion Picture Corporation Studios, Kafnu Taipei, and Vie Show Cinemas Taipei Hsin Yi. The courses are designed for filmmakers, industry professionals, as well as faculty and students of related professional fields. The registration will open from October 24 on the official website.
