Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee announced a newly added category Best Documentary Short Film to the Golden Horse Awards, starting from this year (2021). Submissions for short films (live action, documentary, and animated) are open from June 1st to June 30th, and from July 1st to August 2nd for features (narrative, documentary, and animated).

The nominees will be announced on October 5th, and the winner will be revealed at the 58th Golden Horse Awards Ceremony on November 27th.

The Golden Horse Awards firstly included Best Short Film in its 33rd edition (1996); in the 53rd edition (2016), the award was subdivided into Best Live Action Short Film and Best Animated Short Film. In light of the increasing number of documentary short films and their outstanding quality, the Committee has decided to add the Best Documentary Short Film to make the awards more inclusive.

In addition to the Golden Horse Awards, submissions to the Series for Golden Horse Film Project Promotion, Golden Horse Film Academy, and to the Golden Horse Film Festival will open from June 1st. Submissions to the FPP project and WIP project will start from June 15th; Early Bird rates are available for FPP and WIP submissions made between June 15th to June 30th.  For more information and details of the deadlines, please visit the Golden Horse official website.
