Golden Horse Master Class, a collaborative work of Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee, Bureau of Audiovisual And Music Industry Development, MOC, and  Pegatron Corporation, marches into its 5th edition and marks the grandest cinematic event in post-COVID era with heavyweight filmmakers’ attendances. The distinguished guests attending in person include Ann HUI, KORE-EDA Hirokazu, KUROKI Hitomi, Peter GOULD, SAKAMOTO Yuji, PARK Jae Beom, Dan LIN, YEE Chung-man and Stephen TUNG Wai; those participate through videoconferencing are Slawomir IDZIAK, Harry LU and Louise Marie SMITH.

Contents of the Golden Horse Master Class are thoughtfully picked and curated by the invited guests: record-keeper of the Best Director awards at Golden Horse Ann HUI will share the director’s efforts in preparing and forging actors’ performances, from casting to the shooting on site, using Deanie YIP (A Simple Life) and TANG Wei (The Golden Era) for case study; for the third time earnestly joining Golden Horse, the one-and-only KORE-EDA Hirokazu will talk about his international co-production experiences in recent foreign language productions Broker and The Truth; the acclaimed actress KUROKI Hitomi will condense her acting career spanning nearly four decades, to elaborate on the intricate interpretation of diverse characters as an actor and as a director.

This year, the Master Class also puts the emphasis on screenwriting along with award-winning writers from the East and the West: screenwriter of Breaking Bad and co-creator-writer-director of Better Call Saul, Peter GOULD will break down the details on how he created the acclaimed series that swept Golden Globe Awards and the Primetime Emmy Awards; navigator of Japanese TV drama for decades, lately delivered Quartet, My Dear Exes and box office hit movie I Fell in Love Like a Flower Bouquet, SAKAMOTO Yuji will share how he brings about the unconventional characters with ample everyday details; original creator of the adapted The Good Doctor, followed by the popular Vincenzo, master of Korean black comedy PARK Jae Beom will unveil the unique creation mode in Korean screenwriting.

Moreover, Golden Horse also invites veterans of varied professional fields around the globe: Polish legendary cinematographer Slawomir IDZIAK (The Double Life of Véronique, Three Colors: Blue) reveals how he speaks the multi-layered visual languages that touches cinephiles; Academy Awards nominee (Curse of the Golden Flower) and three-time Golden Horse Awards winner, production designer YEE Chung-man waves his magic wand to unmask his exceptional cinematic aesthetics; Hollywood producer Dan LIN will revisit his wonderful journey incubating box office hits including It, The Lego Movie and the Sherlock Holmes franchise.

The topics of occupational safety and environmental sustainability are not overlooked: a joint effort with Taipei Film and Drama Union brings armor and weapon master Harry LU online to discuss his experience working on The Dark Knight and Mission Impossible franchise; two-time Golden Horse Awards-winning action choreographer Stephen TUNG Wai will hold a three-day workshop on the meticulous design and execution of seemingly dangerous action scenes under utmost safety measures. The leading pioneer in sustainable filmmaking Louise Marie SMITH will illustrate on green filmmaking that effectively produces less waste and fewer carbon emission, with Jurassic World Dominion and No Time To Die as examples.

The Golden Horse Master Class will be held between November 12th and 18th at the Event Space of Taipei New Horizon.
