The 2022 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion drew to a close today (11/17) at the Taipei New Horizon Building, with the final-stage jury comprising Eddie FONG Ling-ching, Clara LAW, Aileen LI and Sandee CHAN awarding the TWD 1,000,000 Grand Prize to Malaysian director CHONG Keat-aun for Amah’s Miseries. The four jury members praised Amah’s Miseries for its humanistic portrayal of Malaysia’s disappearing “amah” culture, and its reflections on the pressures and conflicts faced by female characters against the backdrop of an urban construction project amid rapid modernization. The meticulous field research and moving realism make it a film worthy of anticipation, the jury added. In receiving the award, CHONG Keat-aun said: “For a film project to be given its first step by Golden Horse is just like an ambitious first shot of light and shadow. Thanks to each jury member and industry professionals who came in search of stories.”

The 2022 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion facilitated three intensive days of meetings and activities from November 15 to 17. This year featured 68 selected projects, including film projects in development (FPP), work in progress (WIP), and series projects (Series). These projects attracted 118 industry professionals from all around the world, whose representatives participated in a total of 1,623 meetings, setting a new record high. Apart from offering a strong line-up of diverse genres, this year’s selected projects also attracted many new Chinese-language directors, international co-productions and foreign filmmakers. This demonstrates the current enthusiasm toward the Chinese-language film market and fills its future with even more excitement.
