In 2015, the 7th edition of Taipei Golden Horse Film Academy is once again led by prestigious director HOU Hsiao-Hsien, who won the Best Director award at Cannes Film Festival with The Assassin; the faculty include noted producer and editing director LIAO Ching-Song, Golden Horse Awards winners YAO Hung-I and CHENG Yu-Chieh. YAO’s Hometown Boy won Best Documentary at Golden Horse Awards and Grand Prize at Taipei Film Awards; he has participated in The Assassin, Murmur of the Hearts, and The Laundryman as cinematographer or editing director. CHENG won Best Short Film at Golden Horse Awards by Summer, Dream. His latest work Wawa No Cidal also won Audience Choice Award at 2015 Taipei Film Awards. The faculty will lead the academy member to make two short films in one month and premiere at Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.

In the last few years, the industry witnessed some outstanding alumni of Taipei Golden Horse Film Academy, such as Midi Z, Anthony CHEN and LEE Chung. This year there are fourteen participants are YU Hui-Fen, CHAN Chen-Chih, WANG Zhu-Shuo, LIU Cheng-Nan, CHEN Ko-Chin (Taiwan), QIU Yang, QIU Sheng, LI Lin-Han (China), CHEUNG Chin-Hung, CHEUNG Yu-Hon (Hong Kong), LEONG Wei-Ping, TAN Seng-Kiat (Malaysia), LEE Yong-Chaw (Myanmar) and NIU Han (New Zealand).

The selected members of Film Academy are appointed into two categories: Directing and Cinematography. In the group of Directing: YU Hui-Fe has participating in Life of Pi (Ang LEE) and Silence (Martin SCORSESE), NIU Han join the production of Red Cliff & Red Cliff II (John WOO), QIU Yang’s Under The Sun was nominated for Cinefondation Award at Cannes Film Festival, QIU Sheng’s various works have been selected into Dalian Art Film Festival, LIU Cheng-Nan’s My Transformed Family was nominated for Taipei Film Awards and Golden Harvest Awards, TAN Seng-Kiat has won the Grand Prize at 2014 Taipei Golden Horse Film Project Promotion with feature film project Shuttle Life. LEONG Wei-Ping from Malaysia and LEE Yong-Chaw from Myanmar both characterize with realistic portrayal of identity struggle while CHEUNG Chin-Hung demonstrates independent spirit for filmmaking.

In the group of Cinematography, CHEN Ko-Chin has joined TV drama Wake Up, feature thriller The Tag-Along; CHAN Chen-Chih filmed The Great Buddha, nominated for Best Short Film at Golden Horse Awards; WANG Zhu-Shuo’s Jackpot was nominated for Best Picture (Student Division) at Golden Harvest Awards.

2015 Taipei Golden Horse Film Academy will have generous support from Central Pictures Corporation. The academy starts from October 23rd through November 21st while the selected participants collaborate through scriptwriting, casting, shooting and post-production, mostly shot in Taipei City. The two short films will screen at Taipei Shin Kong Cinemas on November 18th (free admission).
