Gong Li Leads the Jury for the 55th Golden Horse Awards

With the invitation from Ang LEE, the new president of Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, renowned actress Gong Li will chair the Jury for the 55th Golden Horse Awards. Gong expresses her gratitude for the invitation, her readiness to take on the heavy duty, and her willingness for unreserved dedication to cinematic arts. 

Gong Li made her big screen debut in 1988 with Red Sorghum by Zhang Yimou, which was awarded Golden Bear Awards at Berlinale. She then starred in Ju Dou (1990), Raise The Red Lantern (1991), both nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards, and Farewell My Concubine (1993), the only Palme d’Or winner for Chinese-language films so far at Cannes Film Festival. Gong’s persuasive performance in the Golden Lion winning film The Story of Qiu Ju (1992) also won her the Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival. Gong has served as jury member at the 50th Cannes Film Festival, as well as head of jury for Berlinale, Venice and Tokyo International Film Festival.

The 55th Golden Horse Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday November 17th at National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei. Full list of nominees and the jury will be announced on October 1st. Submissions to the Golden Horse Awards (Feature, Documentary and Animated Feature), as well as the Golden Horse Film Festival, Golden Horse Film Academy and the Golden Horse Film Project Promotion are due on July 31st.
