2023 Golden Horse FPP sets new record with TWD 8,000,000+ in total prize

The prize of the 2023 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion has broken through TWD 8,000,000. Now in its 17th year, this project matching and co-production platform has cultivated over 150 projects that have been successfully made into films and series, many of which have achieved remarkable results both domestically and internationally. The films Snow in Midsummer, Eye of the Storm, OLD FOX, Abang Adik, Trouble Girl, Day Off, The Lyricist Wannabe, A Boy and A Girl, Free Beats: The Musical Journey of CHEN Ming Chang, PIGSY, Who’ll Stop the Rain, and Fish Memories received a total of 52 nominations at this year’s Golden Horse Awards, while the series The Amazing Grace of Σ received 10 Golden Bell Award nominations. Additionally, Tomorrow is a Long Time was selected to the Berlinale, Salli, A Boy and A Girl, and Borrowed Time were selected to the Busan International Film Festival, OLD FOX was selected to the Tokyo International Film Festival, and Be With Me was selected to the Hawaii International Film Festival.

 

In addition to the TWD 1,000,000 Grand Prize, the 2023 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion offers 14 other awards thanks to the generous sponsorship of industry partners. These include the TAICCA Original Award provided by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, the Taipei Golden Creativity Award provided by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs, the CNC Cash Award provided by the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée, the FPP Visionary Award provided by Cinema Inutile, the Genesis Wave Film Creative Award provided by Genesis Wave Film Co., Ltd., the Hakka Creative Award provided by the Hakka Public Communication Foundation, the Hua Yi Pictures Award provided by Hua Yi Pictures, the Taipei New Horizon Screenplay Award provided by Taipei New Horizon, the Activator Market Potential Award provided by Activator Co., Ltd., the Netflix Emerging Storyteller Award provided by Netflix, the MyVideo Creative Series Award provided by Taiwan Mobile’s MyVideo, the CATCHPLAY International Spotlight Award provided by Screenworks, the GLORY Creative Series Award provided by the GLORY Foundation for Creative Industries, and the Judicial Creative Series Award provided by the Judicial Yuan. The total prize on offer exceeds TWD 8,000,000, setting a new record high.

This year’s Golden Horse Film Project Promotion final-stage jury that will decide the TWD 1,000,000 Grand Prize comprises CHEN Yi-wen, Jeffrey CHAN, and Winnie TSANG, all three of whom have extensive experience and qualifications. Golden Horse Award-winning actor CHEN Yi-wen has been active in the film and television industry for over 30 years, starring in countless classic films by renowned filmmakers. Known for his exceptional acting skills, he has also been a director and is a recipient of the Golden Horse Grand Jury Award. Jeffrey CHAN has made significant contributions to film, television, and new media, producing over 100 films, including recent Taiwanese works such as Eye of the Storm, Port of Lies, and The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon, all of which have garnered critical acclaim and positive word of mouth. Winnie TSANG, founder of Golden Scene Company Limited, holds a pivotal role in the Hong Kong film industry and continues to be a driving force behind Hong Kong cinema. She has invested in and produced outstanding works, including The Way We Dance franchise, The Midnight After, Beyond the Dream, and Far Far Away

 

To assist project representatives with their pitches, the Golden Horse Film Project Promotion has specifically organized training workshops with industry experts serving as mentors. This year’s FPP pitching mentors are A Sun and My Missing Valentine producer YEH Jufeng and Detention and Eye of the Storm producer Aileen LI, both of whom have overseen Golden Horse Award-winning films; the screenwriting mentors are LU Shih-yuan, the award-winning screenwriter of Dear EX and The World Between Us, and HO Shing-ming, writer of the popular film Us and Them and series Copycat Killer; and the series pitching trainers are Phil TANG, producer of the topical series Gold Leaf and Copycat Killer, and Gavin LIN, director of the blockbuster film More Than Blue and producer of More Than Blue: The Series

Following on from last year’s successful cross-industry collaboration with the Golden Indie Music Awards that saw the facilitation of nearly 200 matching sessions, this year’s Golden Horse Film Project Promotion is once again hosting the “Golden Horse Film Project Promotion × Golden Indie Music Awards” networking event, providing filmmakers and musicians with more time for mutual exchanges, fostering further opportunities for collaboration between outstanding film and television works and emerging musical talents in the hopes of igniting vibrant cross-disciplinary sparks of creativity.

 

The 2023 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion will take place from November 20 to November 22, with the awards ceremony to be held on November 22 at Taipei New Horizon. This is where the movie stars and potential masterpieces of tomorrow prepare for take-off. Please stay tuned.
